Forward Deployed Engineer (FDE)

Mphasis

Job Description & Details

This is a hands-on Forward Deployed Engineer role embedded directly in customer-facing engagements to drive AI-assisted software delivery. You won't just be writing raw code all day; instead, you'll act as the technical bridge between business needs and cutting-edge agentic workflows, validating AI outputs and ensuring enterprise-grade architecture.

What You'll Actually Be Doing

Expect to spend your days sitting down with clients to map out messy business problems and turning them into structured technical requirements. You will heavily leverage AI tools like GitHub Copilot, Cursor, or Claude to generate code, review architectures, and spin up test automation scripts using Playwright. A lot of your time goes into prompt and context engineering, debugging AI-generated artifacts, and making sure everything plays nicely with the client's existing CI/CD pipelines and security guardrails.

The Core Tech Stack

You need a rock-solid foundation in Python because you'll constantly be auditing, refactoring, and optimizing AI-generated code. Familiarity with modern API design, microservices, and CI/CD pipelines is non-negotiable since you'll be pushing these solutions through automated deployment loops. Experience with AI-assisted tools (Cursor, Copilot) and test frameworks like Playwright or Selenium will make or break your day-to-day survival here.

Interview Expectations

Expect the hiring team to test your ability to debug code you didn't write, likely by handing you a snippet of Python generated by an AI and asking you to spot subtle concurrency or security flaws. They will also drill into your understanding of Spec-Driven Development and how you handle edge cases when an LLM hallucinates an API integration. They are secretly looking to see if you have the critical eye of a senior engineer rather than blindly trusting whatever an AI spits out.

Application Advice

Skip the generic resume templates and explicitly highlight your hands-on experience with Python, CI/CD automation, and modern AI coding assistants like Claude or Cursor. Make sure to emphasize any customer-facing or consulting background you have, as this is just as much a communication role as it is a technical one. Drop keywords like Spec-Driven Development, Agentic SDLC, and Playwright right into your bullet points to easily clear their automated ATS filters.
