Junior Cloud Engineer

Job Description & Details

This is a solid entry-level gig for someone trying to break into the cloud infrastructure space without needing a decade of prior background. You won't be architecting enterprise multi-region systems on day one, but you will get your hands dirty with real operational support and learning under senior engineers.

What You'll Actually Be Doing

Your day-to-day will involve riding shotgun with senior engineers, handling the grunt work of monitoring deployments, troubleshooting basic infrastructure failures, and supporting cloud platforms. You'll spend a lot of time digging through logs, verifying access management controls, and assisting with routine maintenance across environments like AWS, Azure, or GCP. Expect to touch a bit of everything as you learn how production cloud systems actually stay alive.

The Core Tech Stack

Fundamentally, you need to know your way around at least one major cloud provider—AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform—alongside basic Linux or Windows system administration and networking. Having some exposure to scripting via Python, Bash, or PowerShell is going to save you a lot of pain. On top of that, any hands-on tinkering you've done with Git, Docker, or basic CI/CD pipelines will make you look vastly more prepared than the average applicant.

Interview Expectations

Be ready for the hiring manager to test your fundamental understanding of networking and troubleshooting methodology by asking you to walk through what happens when a web app goes down and how you'd diagnose it. They aren't expecting a masterclass in distributed systems, but they want to see a methodical approach to problem-solving and an honest assessment of how you learn new tech. They are secretly looking for curiosity and coachability over memorized trivia.

Application Advice

Skip the generic objectives and heavily highlight any homelab projects, personal GitHub repos, cloud certifications, or internships where you actually touched infrastructure. Make sure to weave keywords like AWS, Azure, Linux, Python, and CI/CD directly into your project descriptions so you clear the automated screening without an issue.
