Job Description & Details
This 12-month contract is a heavy-duty automation role for an SDET who actually knows how to build and scale a framework from scratch rather than just clicking around or recording basic scripts. You will be stepping into an environment where you are expected to write clean TypeScript, test both Angular frontends and Java REST APIs, and aggressively leverage AI tools like GitHub Copilot to speed up your workflow.
What You'll Actually Be Doing
Your day-to-day will be a mix of framework architecture and tactical validation. You are not just writing tests; you are expanding fixtures, setting up API clients, and establishing coding standards for the team. When a test fails in Jenkins, you are the one digging into Playwright traces, network logs, and Oracle databases to figure out if it is an app bug, a flaky script, or bad test data. You will also spend plenty of time collaborating with devs and product owners to catch edge cases in requirements before a single line of code is written.
The Core Tech Stack
Playwright with TypeScript is non-negotiable here, and you need deep fundamentals in both to succeed. You'll also need strong SQL skills—specifically with Oracle—to validate backend data processing, plus hands-on experience with Jenkins for CI/CD pipelines. Familiarity with testing Angular apps and Java-based REST APIs will keep you from sinking on day one, and a willingness to heavily incorporate GitHub Copilot into your daily routine is mandatory.
Interview Expectations
Expect the hiring team to grill you on how you handle flakiness in automated UI tests, so be ready to explain your strategy for managing waits, retries, and test isolation in Playwright. They will also likely test your SQL chops on the spot by asking you to write a complex query joining multiple tables to validate a data migration or transaction state, looking closely at how you think about backend data integrity.
Application Advice
To make it past the ATS, your resume needs to explicitly feature keywords like Playwright, TypeScript, Oracle SQL, Jenkins, and API automation right at the top. Don't just list tools—highlight specific instances where you designed a testing framework or reduced test suite flakiness, as engineering teams hiring for this role care deeply about maintainability over raw test count.
