Business Operations Specialist - Retirement Services / Scrum Master

Systems Engineering Services

Job Description & Details

This is a hands-on Scrum Master role with a heavy domain requirement in retirement and wealth management services. You'll be steering a critical integration project following an acquisition, helping migrate systems and data from a newly purchased organization into the main IT ecosystem. If you know record-keeping inside and out and enjoy wrangling complex Agile processes, this is a solid gig.

What You'll Actually Be Doing

You will be stepping in as the traditional Scrum Master for a high-stakes integration project. Your day-to-day will involve leading the team through all Agile ceremonies, facilitating cross-functional communication with managers and senior leaders, and keeping everyone aligned. Beyond the standard Scrum Master duties, you are expected to act as a Subject Matter Expert, translating complex retirement operations and system workflows so the technical teams know what needs to be built.

The Core Tech Stack

You absolutely must have deep domain expertise in Retirement Plan and Participant Administration Record Keeping, specifically with 401(k) and 403(b) administration. A strong grasp of operational components like loans, hardships, ERISA, QDIA, and distributions is non-negotiable. While you aren't writing code, having a functional or technical understanding of data systems will give you a massive edge in bridging the gap between business ops and the dev team.

Interview Expectations

Expect the hiring team to test both your Agile pedigree and your retirement domain knowledge. You'll likely be asked how you handle scope creep when integrating legacy systems from an acquired company that lacks documentation. They want to see that you can take charge, manage stakeholder expectations, and keep velocity high without burning out the team. They are secretly looking for someone who doesn't just manage a Jira board, but genuinely understands the financial regulations and participant workflows behind the tickets.

Application Advice

Your resume needs to heavily emphasize your background in retirement plan administration right at the top, making sure keywords like 401(k), 403(b), ERISA, QDIA, and participant record-keeping jump off the page. Don't bury your Scrum Master experience; pair it with your financial domain knowledge to show you can speak both fluent Agile and fluent fintech operations. Mention any previous M&A, data migration, or system integration projects you've managed to get past the initial screen.
