Job Description & Details
This is a specialized project management role focused on driving complex 5G, wireless, and network infrastructure implementations for the Department of Defense. You will need an active Secret clearance and the ability to work on-site at Fort Bragg periodically, operating with a high degree of autonomy while coordinating between technical engineering teams and government stakeholders.
What You'll Actually Be Doing
Expect to own the project lifecycle from planning through deployment in a tactical defense environment. Your day-to-day will involve wrangling integrated schedules, leading technical syncs with 5G and cybersecurity engineers, tracking dependencies across multiple workstreams, and proactively flagging risks before they derail the timeline. You aren't configuring the RAN yourself, but you need to translate heavy engineering discussions into clear action items and keep everyone accountable without holding their hands.
The Core Tech Stack
While this is a non-coding management role, you must intimately understand 5G and wireless network architectures. The team relies on your grasp of concepts like RAN, 5G Core, RU/DU/CU architectures, and edge computing. Familiarity with DoD frameworks like RMF and obtaining an Authorization to Operate (ATO) is critical, as cybersecurity and accreditation will directly dictate your deployment schedule.
Interview Expectations
Be ready to discuss a time you managed a heavily dependent technical project where a delay in a sub-component (like cybersecurity accreditation) threatened the critical path, and how you mitigated it. The hiring manager is secretly looking for evidence that you can talk shop with stubborn network engineers while keeping non-technical government stakeholders calm and informed.
Application Advice
Your resume needs to scream federal defense IT project management. Do not just list generic Agile methodologies; explicitly highlight your past experience managing 5G, private LTE, or ruggedized telecommunications infrastructure deployments within the DoD or federal space. Make sure keywords like RMF, ATO, RAN, schedule dependencies, and risk management are front and center to clear the automated filters.
