Electrical Engineering Technician

Toyota Material Handling North America

Job Description & Details

This is a hands-on hardware gig focused on the development, integration, and testing of electric forklift systems. If you like actually building things with your hands rather than just staring at software all day, this role gets you knee-deep in wiring harnesses, test fixtures, and prototype machinery.

What You'll Actually Be Doing

You'll spend your days fabricating, wiring, and troubleshooting electrical panels, harnesses, and test stands. Expect to read complex schematics, operate multimeters and oscilloscopes, and integrate motor controllers and sensors directly onto electric vehicles. The lab environment moves fast, so you'll also be maintaining equipment using 5S standards and documenting your troubleshooting steps in Excel and Visio.

The Core Tech Stack

Your bread and butter here will be reading electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and harness drawings alongside precise physical execution like soldering, crimping, and wire routing. Low-voltage DC systems are a must. If you happen to know your way around CANopen, RS-485, or basic scripting in Python or C++, you'll have a massive leg up when dealing with embedded systems and test automation.

Interview Expectations

Expect the hiring manager to hand you a mock schematic and ask you to trace a fault or explain your methodology for debugging an intermittent low-voltage DC drop. They want to see your practical, methodical approach to troubleshooting rather than textbook theory. You'll also likely be quizzed on proper crimping and soldering techniques to ensure you know how to build hardware that survives harsh industrial environments.

Application Advice

Make sure your resume highlights your physical, hands-on workshop skills alongside your theoretical knowledge. Explicitly list out terms like electrical harnesses, panel fabrication, soldering, IPC/WHMA standards, and diagnostics equipment like oscilloscopes to ensure you easily pass through the automated ATS filters.
