Job Description & Details
This is a heavy-duty, enterprise-scale MicroStrategy contract role based in Reston, VA, where you'll be building complex reporting suites and business intelligence solutions for massive user bases. You won't just be throwing together basic dashboards; you'll be diving deep into performance optimization, custom transformations, and multi-pass SQL within a healthcare-adjacent data ecosystem.
What You'll Actually Be Doing
Expect to spend your days designing and deploying high-performance Visual Insight Dashboards, Report Services Documents, and advanced analytics reports. You will act as the go-to subject matter expert, collaborating with enterprise stakeholders to translate ambiguous business requirements into robust, scalable BI solutions. Beyond development, you'll troubleshoot production bottlenecks, lead testing and deployment cycles, mentor junior devs, and integrate complex data sources ranging from traditional RDBMS to Big Data environments like Hadoop and Spark.
The Core Tech Stack
Your bread and butter here is going to be MicroStrategy paired with absolute fluency in SQL. The client needs someone who can write complex queries, views, and stored procedures without breaking a sweat, while leveraging advanced MicroStrategy features like VLDB properties, relationship filters, and rolling metrics. Because this ecosystem touches big data and cloud environments, familiarity with Hadoop, Spark, and modern CI/CD pipelines will help you hit the ground running.
Interview Expectations
Expect the technical interviewers to grill you on performance tuning and query optimization. They will likely ask how you handle a MicroStrategy report that is timing out against a massive database, prompting you to explain your approach to VLDB properties, intermediate table types, and indexing strategies. They are secretly testing whether you understand the underlying SQL being generated or if you just rely on the GUI. Another common probing area will involve your experience with schema design and handling complex transformations in enterprise environments.
Application Advice
When updating your resume for this role, don't just list 'MicroStrategy' and call it a day. Highlight specific instances where you built complex Report Services Documents or optimized slow-running dashboards using advanced VLDB properties. Make sure keywords like Visual Insight, rolling metrics, relationship filters, and complex SQL/stored procedures are front and center to clear the client's automated ATS filters.
