Job Description & Details
This role sits at the intersection of production assembly, quality control, and field service for medical devices. You will be hands-on with hardware daily, building precision subassemblies and diagnosing complex failures on units coming straight off the line or back from the field.
What You'll Actually Be Doing
Your day-to-day will be a mix of precision mechanical build work and rigorous electrical diagnostics. You'll spend hours reading schematics, putting together electromechanical assemblies, and soldering components, but you will also be the person who figures out why a console failed in the field and traces the root cause down to the circuit board level. Expect to collaborate heavily with Engineering and Quality to fix recurring design or assembly flaws rather than just swapping parts.
The Core Tech Stack
To succeed here, you need rock-solid skills in component-level PCBA troubleshooting and precision soldering, backed by a valid IPC certification. You'll live inside electrical schematics while wielding multimeters, oscilloscopes, and specialized test equipment. Familiarity with medical device standards like ISO 13485 and regulatory environments is a massive advantage because documentation and traceability are just as important as your soldering iron.
Interview Expectations
Expect the hiring team to test your practical problem-solving abilities on the spot. They will likely hand you a schematic and ask you to walk them through how you would isolate a short on a multi-layer board, listening closely to how logically you rule out variables. They are secretly looking for method over speed—showing them you know how to safely handle ESD-sensitive components and meticulously document your failure analysis will win them over.
Application Advice
When updating your resume for this role, make sure your technical certifications, especially any IPC credentials, are front and center. Don't just list what you've built; emphasize your hands-on troubleshooting metrics and experience working under regulated quality systems like ISO 13485. Weave keywords like PCBA rework, RMA processing, electrical schematics, and component-level diagnostics naturally into your job descriptions to easily clear the automated screening filters.
