Job Description & Details
This is a heavy-duty, hands-on infrastructure role where you will be physically managing the backbone of a major datacenter. Expect to work rotating shifts and handle everything from large-scale rack deployments to critical fiber troubleshooting in a 24/7 environment.
What You'll Actually Be Doing
Your days will be a mix of physical deployment and precision optical work. You'll be executing large-scale rack deployments, running structured cabling, and handling delicate fiber splicing and termination. Since this site operates around the clock, you'll rotate through day, swing, and graveyard shifts, occasionally stepping up for emergency response and hardware break/fix tasks in warm data halls.
The Core Tech Stack
You need absolute mastery over physical layer infrastructure. That means deep fluency with Cat6A, OM4, OS2, and MPO/MTP cabling, alongside hands-on experience using OTDRs, optical power meters, and cable certifiers for rigorous QA/QC testing. Knowing your way around network switches, routers, and line cards is non-negotiable, and any exposure to liquid-cooled rack systems (AALC) will instantly put you at the top of the stack.
Interview Expectations
Expect the hiring team to grill you on your fiber troubleshooting methodology and safety protocols. They will likely ask you to walk through a scenario where a newly installed MPO trunk fails an insertion loss test and how you would systematically isolate the fault. The interviewer is secretly looking for your attention to detail regarding connector contamination and whether you prioritize clean work practices over rushing a job.
Application Advice
To get past the ATS, make sure your resume explicitly lists the testing tools you've used, such as OTDR and optical power meters, alongside specific fiber types like OS2 and OM4. Don't just list generic IT skills; highlight your hands-on metrics, like the scale of the rack deployments you've managed and your familiarity with strict ESD and safety compliance in hyperscale environments.
