Job Description & Details
This is a hands-on application security role focused heavily on finding vulnerabilities before the bad guys do, specifically across enterprise web apps and APIs. If you enjoy breaking things, digging into complex business logic flaws, and actually collaborating with devs to fix them rather than just throwing a PDF report over the wall, this one's worth a close look.
What You'll Actually Be Doing
Expect to spend your days knee-deep in DAST scans, Burp Suite, and manual code or architecture walkthroughs. You'll be picking apart authentication flows, verifying whether complex API authorization rules actually hold up under pressure, and filtering out the noise from automated tools. When you find a solid bug, you'll write up the reproduction steps, explain the real-world business impact to engineering, and then verify the fix once they push out a patch.
The Core Tech Stack
You need to know your way around Burp Suite Professional and modern web architectures inside and out. Mastery of the OWASP Top 10 and OWASP API Security Top 10 is non-negotiable. Because they work with .NET and JavaScript-based stacks, you should understand how those platforms handle secure coding, session management, and common injection vectors. Bonus points if you can speak fluent CI/CD integration using Azure DevOps or GitHub.
Interview Expectations
Be ready for a technical interviewer to ask you to walk through a scenario where a complex, multi-tenant API is suffering from a subtle broken object level authorization (BOLA) flaw, and explain how you would detect and exploit it manually. They want to see that you understand underlying architectural intent, not just tool outputs. You should also expect a deep dive into how you triage false positives under pressure without slowing down engineering release cycles.
Application Advice
Your resume needs to heavily feature concrete examples of manual penetration testing triumphs rather than just listing automated tools you've clicked around in. Make sure terms like OWASP Top 10, Burp Suite, API Security, and DevSecOps pipelines are explicitly woven into your bullet points so you easily clear the initial ATS keyword match.
