Job Description & Details
This is a heavy-hitting senior contract role for someone who knows how to build distributed, enterprise-grade Java backends from scratch. If you enjoy untangling complex e-commerce architectures and scaling systems that handle massive throughput, this gig in Bentonville will keep you thoroughly engaged.
What You'll Actually Be Doing
You'll be spending your days designing, coding, and scaling Java-based microservices that drive core e-commerce functionality. Expect to architect real-time event-driven pipelines, debug tricky concurrency issues in production, and collaborate closely with product teams to translate ambiguous business needs into bulletproof technical designs. You'll be working autonomously most of the time, so you need to be comfortable juggling competing priorities without someone holding your hand.
The Core Tech Stack
Java, Spring Boot, and Kafka form the holy trinity for this role, alongside a mandatory background in C++ and distributed microservices. Because this is an e-commerce platform, your code has to withstand high traffic spikes, meaning deep knowledge of cloud deployments, REST APIs, and containerization tools like Docker and Kubernetes is non-negotiable. You'll also rely heavily on Gitflow, Jenkins, and Jira for daily engineering workflows.
Interview Expectations
Expect the hiring team to grill you on distributed systems design, specifically asking how you handle message ordering and consumer lag in high-throughput Kafka architectures. They want to see past your resume bullets to check if you actually understand failure modes in microservices, so be ready to walk through a time a service failed in production and how you isolated the root cause using metrics and logs.
Application Advice
To get past the ATS, make sure your resume explicitly highlights your hands-on years with Java, Spring Boot, and Kafka, ideally linking them to large-scale e-commerce or high-volume distributed applications. Don't just list technologies; write out brief impact statements mentioning microservices, REST APIs, and cloud deployments so the recruiter immediately recognizes you as a senior builder.
