Job Description & Details
This is a heavy-duty cloud infrastructure gig requiring someone who can step into an enterprise AWS environment and immediately take ownership of high-severity outages and complex architectures. You won't just be writing clean code here; you'll be firefighting, optimizing networking, and dealing with real production pressure on a hybrid schedule.
What You'll Actually Be Doing
You'll spend your days wrangling complex enterprise AWS environments, designing robust VPC topologies, and wrestling with Terraform state files. A significant part of the role involves leading incident response bridges when production goes sideways, meaning you need to keep your cool while debugging microservices on EKS, parsing Datadog or CloudWatch logs, and eventually writing the RCA that executive leadership will read. Expect to automate repetitive infrastructure tasks using Python or Bash to keep the cloud machinery running smoothly.
The Core Tech Stack
You need absolute fluency in AWS core services like VPC, IAM, EC2, and EKS, coupled with advanced Terraform skills for Infrastructure as Code. The team relies heavily on PagerDuty and Datadog for observability, so you should be completely comfortable tracking down elusive bugs across distributed systems. If you don't know your way around Transit Gateways and modular Terraform architectures, you're going to struggle here.
Interview Expectations
Expect the hiring managers to test your mettle with real-world failure scenarios, such as being asked how you would troubleshoot a sudden, cascading latency spike in a multi-region EKS cluster with broken Transit Gateway routes. They want to see your structured approach to root cause analysis, how you manage incident communication under pressure, and whether you understand the blast radius of IAM policy changes. Be ready to defend your Terraform module design choices and state management strategies.
Application Advice
To make it past the ATS screening, your resume needs to explicitly highlight your 6+ years of cloud engineering experience with heavy emphasis on AWS and Terraform keywords. Don't just list technologies; bullet-point specific metrics from past incidents you've resolved, enterprise migrations you've led, and automation scripts you've built in Python. Make sure your hands-on experience with PagerDuty and Datadog stands out clearly, as they need someone who can hit the ground running without basic tooling training.
