Job Description & Details

This is a heavy-duty infrastructure role for someone who lives and breathes Epic environments and enterprise database management. You'll be the backbone of a high-availability healthcare ecosystem, balancing daily build migrations with high-stakes performance tuning and team mentorship.

What You'll Actually Be Doing

Expect to spend your days managing MS SQL Server and Cache database environments across cloud and on-prem platforms. You'll juggle daily build migrations, troubleshoot complex performance bottlenecks, and design robust disaster recovery strategies while coordinating an on-call rotation. When critical-call events happen, you'll be one of the senior escalation points ensuring patient-facing systems stay rock-solid.

The Core Tech Stack

You need deep, battle-tested expertise in Epic ODBA and ECSA architectures, alongside active certifications. Mastery of Microsoft SQL Server, Cache databases, and both Linux and Windows operating systems is non-negotiable. Add in hands-on experience with Data Courier and high-availability setups like Always On, and you'll have the exact toolkit needed to survive and scale in this ecosystem.

Interview Expectations

They are going to test your incident response and architecture design under pressure. Expect a scenario where an Epic database instance degrades severely during a major upgrade or build migration—the hiring manager wants to hear your exact methodology for diagnosing locking, indexing, or I/O bottlenecks in real time. They'll also probe your leadership style, looking for concrete examples of how you've mentored junior DBAs and handled cross-team friction with SAN or network admins.

Application Advice

Skip the generic IT buzzwords and tailor your resume to mirror the exact technical requirements listed here. Make sure your Epic certifications (ODBA, ECSA, Chronicles) are front and center at the top of your resume, and explicitly highlight measurable achievements around database uptime, disaster recovery implementations, and your experience leading on-call teams to get past the automated filters.
