Job Description & Details
This is a solid hybrid role for someone who lives and breathes professional audio and AV systems, bridging the gap between deep technical design and customer-facing sales. If you enjoy traveling about 50% of the time to demo gear, talk shop with consultants, and help spec out large commercial sound spaces, this gig offers a great mix of autonomy and high visibility.
What You'll Actually Be Doing
You'll spend your days partnering closely with Regional Sales Managers to take commercial audio projects from initial napkin sketches all the way to final commissioning. A typical week might involve reviewing CAD drawings, running acoustic simulations using EASE, jumping on calls to talk DSP programming, and hitting the road for client visits or product demos. You'll be the technical brain in the room who can explain complex acoustic concepts to non-technical stakeholders without losing your credibility, all while feeding real-world product feedback straight back to the internal engineering team.
The Core Tech Stack
You need hands-on fluency with acoustic modeling tools like EASE, system design software such as AutoCAD or Revit, and enterprise-grade professional audio DSP platforms like Q-SYS, Biamp, or Crestron. The team relies on you to validate system designs, troubleshoot complex signal flows, and configure gear accurately. Having certifications like CTS-D or Dante is a huge differentiator that will instantly prove you know your way around modern networked AV architectures.
Interview Expectations
Expect the hiring manager to hand you a hypothetical commercial venue layout and ask you to walk them through your acoustic design process on the fly, specifically how you would choose loudspeaker coverage and handle DSP routing. They aren't just looking for the right math; they want to see how you think under pressure and how well you can translate abstract client requirements into rock-solid signal flow diagrams. Be ready to defend your choice of software tools and explain how you communicate trade-offs to clients who want the impossible within a tight budget.
Application Advice
When updating your resume for this role, make sure you don't just list the software you've used, but highlight specific large-scale commercial AV projects where you owned the design and commissioning phases from start to finish. Explicitly weave in keywords like EASE, Q-SYS, Biamp, CAD, and Dante to clear the ATS filters. If you hold a CTS-D or Smaart certification, put them right at the top so the technical recruiter instantly recognizes you're bringing certified engineering chops to the sales floor.
