Principal Network Architect

Job Description & Details

This is a heavy-duty architecture role where you will be designing complex LAN/WAN/WLAN infrastructures with a strict requirement for Operational Technology (OT) experience. If your background is purely enterprise IT without touching OT or heavy industrial networking, you'll likely hit a wall here. It is a fully remote W2 opportunity, but keep in mind that occasional travel to client sites is required.

What You'll Actually Be Doing

You'll split your time between high-level architecture design, client-facing consulting, and acting as the ultimate escalation point for gnarly network failures. Day-to-day involves leading technical workshops, figuring out modernization paths from legacy setups to next-gen routing, and overseeing multi-site deployments. You aren't just drawing diagrams; you are writing the implementation standards and mentoring junior engineers to execute them without breaking production.

The Core Tech Stack

Your bread and butter here needs to be deep routing and switching expertise, specifically heavy WAN tech like DWDM/OTN, MPLS, Segment Routing, and multi-peered BGP. Because this role touches OT environments, you also need to know how to bridge traditional enterprise gear with industrial networks. Expect to configure and standardize enterprise hardware from vendors like Cisco, Juniper, Aruba, and Ciena while ensuring strict cybersecurity and high-performance standards.

Interview Expectations

Expect the hiring panel to grill you on advanced routing failure domains and how you handle complex BGP route leaks or MPLS convergence issues in mission-critical environments. They will want to hear a detailed war story about a root cause analysis you performed on an intermittent, hard-to-diagnose WAN outage, specifically focusing on how you isolated the issue between the service provider and internal OT infrastructure. They are secretly looking for senior-level pragmatism—can you balance textbook network design with the messy reality of legacy client environments?

Application Advice

Your resume needs to scream Operational Technology (OT) right at the top, because the ATS and recruiters have a strict filter for this. Do not just list generic networking acronyms; explicitly detail your experience with WAN design, Segment Routing, and large-scale ISP routing protocols. If you have experience consulting directly with public sector clients or leading enterprise migrations, make sure those metrics and project scales are front and center.
