Sr. Backend Developer

Job Description & Details

This is a heavy-duty backend gig for someone who knows their way around distributed cloud systems and isn't afraid of writing Kotlin all day. You'll be stepping into a 5-days-onsite role in Jersey City where you own the cloud-native platform services from code to infrastructure.

What You'll Actually Be Doing

Expect to spend your days designing, building, and scaling microservices that handle heavy traffic without breaking a sweat. You won't just be slinging application code; you'll also be spinning up infrastructure using Terraform and managing containers on AWS ECS. It's a high-ownership role where you'll collaborate closely with architecture teams to optimize performance, handle production support, and drive observability across the stack.

The Core Tech Stack

Kotlin and the modern Spring ecosystem are absolute non-negotiables here—specifically Spring Boot, Spring Cloud, and WebFlux for reactive programming. If you haven't written production Kotlin, don't waste your time because the coding round is strictly in Kotlin. On top of that, you need deep, hands-on muscle memory with AWS services and Terraform for IaC. They want someone who can walk in on day one and build resilient cloud infrastructure without hand-holding.

Interview Expectations

Expect the technical round to grill you on reactive programming patterns with WebFlux and how you handle backpressure in high-throughput distributed systems. The hiring manager is secretly testing whether you understand asynchronous non-blocking I/O deeply or if you just know how to copy-paste Spring annotations. For the infrastructure portion, be ready to defend your Terraform state management strategies and how you troubleshoot container networking issues on AWS ECS.

Application Advice

Make sure your resume screams Kotlin and Spring Boot right at the top, as the ATS and recruiters will filter you out instantly without it. Highlight your specific metrics around AWS infrastructure management and Terraform deployments, ensuring you emphasize production troubleshooting experience to prove you can operate independently in a fast-paced environment.
