Job Description & Details
This is a hands-on cloud engineering role focused heavily on building and optimizing modern contact center solutions using AWS native services. If you enjoy untangling complex telephony routing, building robust APIs, and dealing with the nuances of conversational AI, this gig will keep you on your toes.
What You'll Actually Be Doing
Your day-to-day will revolve around architecting contact flows, setting up routing strategies, and integrating backend data stores to ensure seamless customer service experiences. You'll spend a lot of time writing Java code for API proxies, managing JDK upgrades, and wiring up AWS Lambda functions to talk to Amazon Connect and Amazon Lex. It's not just about spinning up services; it's about troubleshooting latency, optimizing contact center efficiency, and collaborating closely with QA and business stakeholders to translate requirements into scalable cloud infrastructure.
The Core Tech Stack
You absolutely need strong production experience with AWS, Java, and Amazon Connect. The team is leaning heavily on Amazon Lex for conversational bots, and you'll be expected to be completely comfortable navigating the Amazon Connect Console and Flow Designer. Knowing how to glue Lambda, S3, and DynamoDB together cleanly is non-negotiable here. Plus, since you'll be pushing code across multiple environments, solid Git hygiene and familiarity with CI/CD pipelines will save you from deployment day headaches.
Interview Expectations
Expect the interview panel to grill you on your architectural choices when scaling a contact center. They will likely ask you how you would design a zero-downtime migration strategy for a complex contact flow involving multiple Lambda integrations and external APIs, and they'll be listening closely to see how you handle error handling and fallback states. Another classic question you'll hit is explaining how you optimize an Amazon Lex bot's intent resolution latency when it's tightly coupled with a DynamoDB lookup, where the hiring manager is secretly testing whether you actually understand AWS execution timeouts and asynchronous processing under heavy load.
Application Advice
Skip the generic cloud buzzwords and put your exact Amazon Connect and AWS Lambda architecture experience right at the top of your resume. Make sure to explicitly mention 'Amazon Connect Console', 'Flow Designer', 'Amazon Lex', and 'Java API proxy' so you clear the initial ATS keyword filters without an issue. Highlight any past projects where you successfully migrated legacy contact center systems or handled major JDK and dependency library upgrades, as that directly addresses the pain points this team is trying to solve.
