Test Automation Engineer / SDET - (Swift/iOS)

Xove Consulting

Job Description & Details

This role is not for someone who just clicks around or records basic XCUI scripts. You are stepping in to own, architect, and scale the entire test automation framework for a major native iOS app organization. If you want to build internal tooling, dig directly into production Swift code, and act as the definitive quality champion for mobile, this is a rare chance to make a massive technical impact.

What You'll Actually Be Doing

Your day-to-day will go far beyond writing test cases. You'll be evolving the core XCUITest framework, building custom tooling to keep test suites blazing fast, and integrating everything tightly with GitLab CI/CD pipelines and Fastlane. You aren't operating in a black-box testing silo either; you'll be diving straight into the Swift app codebase to debug issues, collaborating with the Android team to keep testing parity with their Espresso setup, and mentoring developers on Apple accessibility standards and quality best practices.

The Core Tech Stack

You need to be fluent in Swift—not just scripting-level, but comfortable reading and inspecting production iOS app code. Mastery of Xcode and XCUITest is table stakes, but your ability to script in Python for CI/CD tooling, manage device farms via AWS Device Farm, and orchestrate builds with Fastlane and GitLab will determine your success here. The team values someone who treats testing infrastructure with the exact same rigor as feature code.

Interview Expectations

Expect the interviewers to challenge your framework design skills by asking how you handle flaky UI tests in a massive CI/CD pipeline at scale. They want to hear about your strategies for parallelizing test runs, handling network stubbing cleanly, and reducing execution time without sacrificing test reliability. Another critical area they'll probe is your fluency in Swift; be prepared to review real app code snippets and explain how you would instrument them for testability.

Application Advice

Your resume needs to scream 'Infrastructure and Architecture' rather than just 'Test Execution'. Make sure to highlight instances where you built custom automation tools, scaled existing frameworks from scratch, or solved complex CI/CD bottlenecks using Python and Fastlane. Sprinkle in keywords like XCUITest, Swift, GitLab CI/CD, and AWS Device Farm explicitly to clear the ATS, but ground your bullet points with metrics showing how much you reduced test execution times or improved framework stability in past roles.
