Job Description & Details
This is a heavy-duty BI and data integration contract where you'll act as a Lead Developer helping the agency migrate to a new SACWIS system while keeping legacy .NET and reporting platforms afloat. You'll need to hit the ground running with complex data pipelines and Tableau reporting, bridging the gap between legacy databases and modern architectures.
What You'll Actually Be Doing
Your days will be split between writing complex T-SQL, tuning SSIS packages, and building out Tableau dashboards that business stakeholders can actually understand. You'll work closely with System Integrators and business analysts to map out legacy data conversions, clean up messy data ingestion flows, and ensure your SSRS and Tableau reports don't choke when dealing with massive datasets. Expect to spend a solid chunk of time troubleshooting data loads, setting up FTP/SFTP file transfers, and handling query performance tuning.
The Core Tech Stack
You'll live and breathe Tableau, Microsoft SQL Server, T-SQL, SSRS, and SSIS. Since you're dealing with data migration and enterprise reporting, you must know how to write hyper-optimized stored procedures, manage Git/TFS version control, and debug sluggish queries across multiple database systems like DB2 and SQL Server. Experience with Talend, Salesforce, or MuleSoft will give you a major advantage here.
Interview Expectations
They are going to test your ability to optimize an agonizingly slow SSIS package or a poorly written T-SQL query that's dragging down the production database. The hiring manager is secretly looking for someone who doesn't just guess at indexes, but systematically analyzes execution plans to fix bottlenecks. Expect a scenario-based question on handling messy data migrations from a legacy system where data integrity is questionable.
Application Advice
Make sure your resume screams data engineering and enterprise reporting rather than just basic dashboard design. Highlight specific metrics where you optimized SSIS package execution times or wrote complex T-SQL queries from scratch. Toss in keywords like data mapping, SSIS deployment, git check-ins, and dynamic Tableau grouping to get past the automated ATS filters and straight onto the hiring manager's desk.
