IT Specialist Senior

Everforth Apex

Job Description & Details

This is a hands-on IT support and systems role embedded at Norfolk Naval Station, requiring an active DoD Secret clearance and an active Sec+ certification right out of the gate. You'll be splitting your time between hardware/software troubleshooting and helping coordinate small-scale IT project lifecycles for a major government client.

What You'll Actually Be Doing

Expect a mix of classic helpdesk firefighting and structured project work. One hour you might be diagnosing a stubborn Outlook issue or swapping out failing laptop hardware, and the next you're gathering requirements from non-technical stakeholders to scope out a system upgrade. You'll need to work independently without a lot of hand-holding, document your processes meticulously, and keep security and continuity controls tight.

The Core Tech Stack

You need a solid foundation in Windows administration—specifically Windows Server alongside Windows 10/11 desktop environments. Hardware break-fix skills for laptops, desktops, and peripherals are a daily requirement. Crucially, you must already hold your CompTIA Security+ certification and be comfortable enforcing DoD-level security compliance across all the hardware and software you touch.

Interview Expectations

The hiring team is going to want proof of your troubleshooting methodology under pressure. They'll likely ask you to walk through a scenario where a user's workstation is completely failing to connect to the network, and they'll want to hear how you systematically isolate the issue from the physical layer up to active directory configurations. They are secretly looking for your ability to communicate clearly with frustrated end-users while keeping strict adherence to security protocols.

Application Advice

Your resume needs to explicitly feature your hands-on experience with Windows Server, hardware troubleshooting, and client-facing IT support. Do not bury your CompTIA Security+ certification or your active DoD clearance status; put them right at the top. Make sure to highlight any past experience where you gathered requirements or helped plan IT projects, as this role values administrative capability just as much as technical execution.
