System Integration & Test Engineer

Everforth Apex

Job Description & Details

This is a hands-on vehicle-level integration and testing role based in Foster City, focusing on electric vehicle architectures across motion, body, and E/E domains. You will spend a good chunk of your time wrangling HIL test benches, digging through logs, and hunting down elusive bus errors rather than just pushing papers. If you like breaking things in a controlled lab environment and figuring out why a powertrain controller decided to panic, this gig will keep you on your toes.

What You'll Actually Be Doing

Expect to bounce between hardware-in-the-loop test benches and physical vehicles on a regular basis. Your day will usually involve capturing telemetry, running test matrices under nominal and off-nominal conditions, and diagnosing intermittent CAN or LIN dropouts. When something inevitably fails during verification, you are the one collaborating with firmware and systems teams to trace the root cause back to a control algorithm or diagnostic monitor and verifying the fix.

The Core Tech Stack

You live and breathe automotive communication protocols like CAN, LIN, and Ethernet, and you know your way around diagnostic and data acquisition tools such as Vector CANalyzer, ETAS INCA, or Intrepid. On the hardware side, you need to be comfortable grabbing an oscilloscope or digital multimeter to validate physical layer signals. Having experience with HIL environments and real-time embedded control systems is what separates a mediocre candidate from someone who can hit the ground running here.

Interview Expectations

Be prepared for a senior engineer to drop a scenario on you where a vehicle controller is intermittently losing communication on the CAN bus, and they will want you to walk through your exact step-by-step debugging methodology using both software tools and physical hardware. They are secretly looking to see if you rely purely on software traces or if you actually understand the physical layer properties like termination resistance and signal ringing. Another classic you will face involves explaining how you would isolate a complex control algorithm bug during HIL testing versus actual vehicle operations, where the interviewer is testing your grasp of hardware-software integration constraints.

Application Advice

Your resume needs to heavily feature your hands-on electrical troubleshooting background and specific automotive tooling experience rather than high-level project management buzzwords. Make sure terms like Vector CANalyzer, ETAS INCA, HIL testing, and CAN/LIN protocols are explicitly mentioned in your experience bullets to clear the initial ATS screening. Highlight vehicle-level integration milestones where you successfully closed the loop on a critical bug from discovery to firmware fix.
