Job Description & Details
This is a full-time, strictly onsite integration gig in Greensboro, NC, focusing heavily on building robust middleware solutions and API gateways. If you are looking for remote flexibility, this isn't it, but it offers a solid 6-month contract path through Apex Systems with a strong chance of extension for the right developer.
What You'll Actually Be Doing
You'll spend your days designing, building, and maintaining both synchronous and asynchronous integrations that tie disparate enterprise systems together. Expect to write clean API services, configure routing solutions, and implement strict security controls like OAuth 2.0 and token validation. A major part of the grind involves troubleshooting integration bottlenecks, setting up end-to-end logging, and documenting dependencies so that technical and non-technical stakeholders stay aligned.
The Core Tech Stack
You need to be fluent in Java, Python, or JavaScript, and bring a deep understanding of API standards like REST, OpenAPI, and GraphQL. Experience with IBM API Connect (APIC) is a massive plus here, alongside familiarity with Microsoft Azure, CI/CD tools like GitHub Actions or Azure DevOps, and modern integration patterns. They also look favorably on folks who have touched Terraform, Spring Boot, or Boomi.
Interview Expectations
Expect the hiring team to probe deeply into your architectural choices around handling failure in distributed systems. They will likely ask how you design an asynchronous message queue to handle retry logic and idempotency without duplicating transactions. The interviewer isn't just looking for a textbook definition of pub-sub; they want to hear war stories about how you debugged a memory leak or a silent timeout in a production middleware layer.
Application Advice
To get past the ATS and grab the recruiter's attention, make sure your resume explicitly highlights your hands-on experience with API management platforms like IBM APIC and middleware design patterns. Don't just list Java or Python as skills—write bullet points detailing specific APIs you built, secured with OAuth 2.0, and deployed using CI/CD pipelines on Azure.
