Job Description & Details
This is a solid backend support and analysis role where you will act as the crucial bridge between business units and enterprise Java applications. Rather than building greenfield systems from scratch, you will spend your time troubleshooting complex production issues, writing custom database queries, and keeping critical infrastructure running smoothly. If you enjoy untangling legacy code, optimizing database performance, and helping non-technical stakeholders understand technical roadblocks, this gig is worth a serious look.
What You'll Actually Be Doing
Expect to spend your mornings triaging incoming support tickets, diving into Java stack traces, and determining whether an issue stems from a database bottleneck or an application bug. You will frequently write or alter SQL queries to extract data for root cause analysis and manually verify fixes. When problems escalate beyond your tier, you will package the technical details for the core engineering groups while proposing process improvements, file layout updates, or web service tweaks to prevent recurring headaches.
The Core Tech Stack
Your bread and butter here will be Java and J2EE applications combined with heavy relational database work. You need to be completely comfortable writing complex SQL queries, and if you know how to performance-tune them, you'll stand out immediately. Modern tooling plays a role too—they specifically want someone who uses AI coding assistants like GitHub Copilot to speed up debugging and optimization, alongside diagnostics platforms like Dynatrace to trace down thorny performance bottlenecks.
Interview Expectations
When you sit down with the engineering lead, expect them to test your SQL chops with a tricky multi-table join or performance optimization scenario; they want to see if you can index properly and avoid full table scans under pressure. You will also likely be asked to walk through a hypothetical production outage in a Java application, where they are secretly looking for your methodical approach to reading logs, isolating services, and using APM tools to find the root cause rather than just guessing.
Application Advice
To get past the ATS and grab the recruiter's attention, make sure your resume explicitly calls out your experience with Java/J2EE support, ticket management workflows, and deep SQL query writing. Don't just list technologies—highlight specific instances where you diagnosed a complex production bug, improved database query performance, or used modern AI assistants to accelerate your debugging workflow. Weave those keywords naturally into your experience bullet points.
