Job Description & Details

This is a heavy-duty backend and cloud support gig centered around maintaining a physics-enabled digital twin platform for risk modeling and geospatial data. You will be the primary technical owner for AWS infrastructure and data pipelines, meaning you need to be comfortable jumping into messy database schemas and complex vendor integrations without much hand-holding.

What You'll Actually Be Doing

Expect to spend your days knee-deep in AWS Aurora databases, tuning performance, executing schema changes, and keeping data replication pipelines humming. A massive part of the job revolves around building and troubleshooting REST APIs and JSON interfaces that feed geospatial data and S3 image repositories into the digital twin platform. When things break—whether it is an imagery upload bottleneck or an escalated integration failure—you are the one investigating root causes, coordinating security updates, and collaborating with external tech vendors to ship fixes.

The Core Tech Stack

AWS is the undisputed backbone here, with deep, hands-on knowledge of Aurora and S3 being absolute non-negotiables for keeping this environment stable. You will also need robust fluency in REST APIs, JSON data structures, and building reliable data replication pipelines. While you do not need to be a GIS expert on day one, having some working familiarity with LiDAR or geospatial data processing will save you a massive learning curve since you are supporting a specialized digital twin ecosystem.

Interview Expectations

Be prepared for an onsite whiteboard session where they will likely ask you to trace a bottleneck through a multi-tier cloud architecture involving an S3 trigger, an API Gateway, and an Aurora backend. The hiring manager is not just looking for the right syntax; they want to see your incident response methodology and how you methodically isolate a failure when upstream vendor data corrupts your database schema. Another likely deep-dive will center on how you handle database migrations and zero-downtime schema updates in production without breaking active integrations.

Application Advice

To make it past the ATS, your resume needs to explicitly mirror the core tech stack keywords: AWS Aurora, AWS S3, REST APIs, JSON, and data replication pipelines. Do not just list your past job titles; quantify your impact by highlighting how many terabytes of data you managed, how you optimized slow-running database queries, or the scale of the cloud integrations you engineered. Since this role requires an onsite interview and hybrid presence in Portland, make sure your current location or willingness to commute is crystal clear at the top of your resume.
