Job Description & Details
This is a solid entry-to-mid level QA gig for someone ready to roll up their sleeves and own automation using modern tooling rather than legacy record-and-playback junk. You will be sitting onsite in Vienna, VA, working directly with the core dev team to ensure nothing broken slips past the pipeline.
What You'll Actually Be Doing
Your day-to-day will revolve around building, expanding, and fixing Playwright test scripts to handle functional, regression, and end-to-end user flows. You won't just be clicking buttons; you'll be writing robust automation frameworks from scratch, filing detailed tickets in Jira when things break, and making sure your tests actually run smoothly inside CI/CD pipelines without flaking out every time a developer changes a class name.
The Core Tech Stack
You absolutely need hands-on experience with Playwright paired with either JavaScript or TypeScript. Beyond the test runner, you'll need a solid grip on Git for version control and a working understanding of how API testing fits into an overall automated regression suite. The team uses these tools to keep releases moving fast without sacrificing stability, so knowing how to write maintainable, clean code is just as important here as it is for the software engineers.
Interview Expectations
Expect the hiring team to grill you on how you handle test flakiness in Playwright, likely asking you to explain how you isolate asynchronous network requests and wait strategies without throwing arbitrary timeouts into your code. They are secretly testing whether you understand underlying DOM rendering and network events or if you just copy-pasted your scripts from documentation tutorials. Be ready to walk through a specific scenario where an automated test failed in a CI pipeline and how you tracked down whether it was a real bug or a bad test.
Application Advice
Skip the generic QA buzzwords and explicitly highlight every project where you used Playwright with TypeScript or JavaScript. Make sure keywords like 'functional testing', 'regression testing', 'CI/CD integration', and 'Jira' appear naturally in your experience bullets to clear the initial ATS filters, and explicitly state your proximity to Vienna, VA since they are strict about local candidates for this onsite role.
