This is a heavy-duty Senior SAP Basis SME role supporting a defense or federal client where your primary mandate is keeping mission-critical landscapes online. You will need an active interim Secret clearance and a CompTIA Security+ certification just to get through the door, making this a strictly regulated environment rather than a standard corporate gig. If you know your way around complex S/4HANA landscapes and love diving into kernel patches and HANA database replication without breaking production, this is a solid project to sink your teeth into.
What You'll Actually Be Doing
You'll spend your days acting as the ultimate technical escalation point for everything Basis-related, touching everything from S/4HANA and BW/4HANA to SAP Solution Manager. Expect to handle system refreshes, complex transport management issues, kernel upgrades, and performance tuning when an enterprise database starts throwing memory bottlenecks. You will also collaborate closely with security and infrastructure teams to ensure compliance, run disaster recovery drills, and manage cloud migrations on AWS or Azure.
The Core Tech Stack
You must bring deep expertise in SAP HANA database administration—specifically system replication (HSR), backup strategies, and delta merges. Mastery of SAP S/4HANA installations, STMS configuration, and Linux/RHEL OS-level administration are absolute deal-breakers here. Knowing your way around cloud platforms like AWS, Azure, or SAP BTP will separate you from other applicants, as the client expects you to handle hybrid or fully cloud-hosted SAP footprints effortlessly.
Interview Expectations
The technical panel will likely drill into your experience with zero-downtime upgrades and disaster recovery by asking how you would handle a catastrophic SAP HANA system replication failure during a live production migration.
