Hybrid/Local Govt Project Manager

Indiana Department of Child Services (DCS)

Job Description & Details

This is a heavy-duty public sector project management gig steering complex IT initiatives for the Indiana Department of Child Services. You will be juggling multi-year projects, strict governance frameworks, and government stakeholders while keeping child support enforcement systems on track. If you know your way around PMBOK and public sector bureaucracy, this contract gives you a chance to make a tangible systemic impact.

What You'll Actually Be Doing

Your days will involve wrangling project schedules, maintaining risk and issue logs, and facilitating status meetings with agency leadership and tech teams. You'll be using Atlassian tools to track milestones and the Microsoft suite to spin up governance artifacts, PM plans, and SharePoint documentation. Expect to spend a lot of time bridging the gap between non-technical stakeholders and technical implementers, handling scope creep, and ensuring compliance with strict state IT governance policies.

The Core Tech Stack

You need solid working knowledge of the Atlassian tool suite (Jira/Confluence) for tracking deliverables, alongside Salesforce technology which forms the backbone of modern state implementations. Mastery of Microsoft Project, Visio, and SharePoint is non-negotiable for mapping out workflows and maintaining documentation. On top of that, deep familiarity with PMBOK standards, Agile methodologies, and IV-D Child Support Enforcement business rules will separate you from applicants who only know generic project management.

Interview Expectations

The interview panel is going to test how you handle project drift and cross-functional friction in a heavily regulated environment. They'll likely ask you to describe a time a major project went off the rails due to stakeholder disagreements and how you brought it back to baseline using structured change control. They want to see that you can navigate bureaucratic red tape without losing momentum or team morale.

Application Advice

Make sure your resume doesn't just list generic Agile buzzwords; explicitly highlight your experience managing large, multi-year implementations within government agencies or complex public sector domains. Front-load keywords like PMBOK, cost/risk/resource management, Salesforce, Atlassian, and IV-D so you easily clear the initial ATS filters. Emphasize your documentation skills using MS Project and SharePoint since state PMOs live and die by their audit trails.
