Senior Azure Cloud Engineer

Job Description & Details

This is a solid, hands-on architectural gig for someone who actually knows how to keep cloud infrastructure alive when things go sideways. You aren't just writing Terraform here; you're owning the entire disaster recovery lifecycle for a multi-region Azure environment, which means your work will directly prevent catastrophic outages.

What You'll Actually Be Doing

Expect to spend your days knee-deep in multi-region Azure architectures, setting up cross-region replication, and validating that RTOs and RPOs are actually achievable rather than just vanity metrics on a slide deck. You will be writing and maintaining meticulous DR runbooks, leading tabletop exercises with cross-functional teams, and figuring out why a failover script didn't behave quite right in staging. It's a mix of heavy-duty engineering and technical leadership, requiring you to bridge the gap between security, networking, and application teams.

The Core Tech Stack

You need deep, production-level fluency in Microsoft Azure, specifically its networking, geographic redundancy, and failover mechanics. On top of that, Terraform and Ansible are non-negotiable since everything must be deployed and configured as code. Experience with Azure Site Recovery and Azure Backup will make your life significantly easier here, as you'll spend a lot of time engineering resilient cross-region recovery and restoration strategies.

Interview Expectations

Expect the hiring team to test your practical understanding of stateful failovers by asking how you would architect a zero-data-loss cross-region replication strategy for a heavily transactional database running in Azure. They want to see if you understand the actual networking and storage bottlenecks involved, rather than just reciting textbook definitions. You'll also likely be grilled on handling split-brain scenarios and maintaining infrastructure drift across regions using Terraform, so be ready to talk through specific edge cases you've debugged in past projects.

Application Advice

To get past the ATS and grab the recruiter's attention, make sure your resume explicitly highlights quantifiable disaster recovery initiatives you've led, such as successful DR testing drills, RTO/RPO improvements, and complex multi-region Azure migrations. Explicitly list out keywords like 'Azure Site Recovery', 'Terraform', 'Ansible', 'multi-region architecture', and 'tabletop exercises' so the screening system flags you immediately as a subject matter expert.
