PeopleSoft Functional Consultant

Job Description & Details

This is a heavy-duty, hands-on PeopleSoft functional gig centered around a complex financial coding and ChartField restructure. If you haven't actually navigated the absolute nightmare of updating combination codes, funding distributions, and payroll-to-GL reconciliations in a live environment, you're going to drown here. It's a high-stakes operational role where a single bad effective date or broken interface will immediately blow up the payroll accounting.

What You'll Actually Be Doing

Your day-to-day will revolve around untangling legacy financial structures, mapping out data dependencies across multiple PeopleSoft modules, and leading workshops to drive critical stakeholder decisions. You'll spend a ton of time designing Excel-to-CI templates or Component Interfaces to push high-volume data updates, and then meticulously validating every single record to ensure operational continuity isn't broken. Expect to own the end-to-end testing, cutover planning, and troubleshooting the inevitable edge cases that pop up when dealing with historical crosswalks and open transactions.

The Core Tech Stack

Deep, battle-tested expertise in PeopleSoft FSCM and HCM/payroll accounting is non-negotiable here. You need to know combination codes, Additional Pay, and effective dating inside and out, alongside practical muscle memory with Component Interfaces and Excel-to-CI data loading methods. If you have experience tying in external timekeeping systems like Kronos or working within local government and public-sector finance, you'll immediately speak the language of the team.

Interview Expectations

The hiring manager is going to test your scar tissue regarding live environment restructures. They'll likely ask you to explain a time a ChartField or funding distribution migration went sideways and how you handled the payroll-to-GL reconciliation fallout. They aren't looking for textbook theory; they want to hear how you handled error handling, managed stakeholder panic, and kept operational continuity afloat.

Application Advice

Skip the generic project management fluff on your resume and double down on the exact PeopleSoft mechanics you've mastered. Make sure keywords like ChartField restructure, Excel-to-CI, combination codes, payroll-to-general-ledger reconciliation, and effective dating are front and center to make it past the ATS. Frame your past bullet points around specific outcomes—such as how many records you processed or how you minimized downtime during cutover—to prove you can handle the complexity of this deployment.
