Migration Toolkit for Virtualization (MTV) Senior Consultant

Not Disclosed

Job Description & Details

This is a hands-on consulting role focused on lifting and shifting legacy workloads off VMware and onto OpenShift Virtualization. If you enjoy untangling complex infrastructure dependencies and guiding enterprise clients through massive cloud-native migrations without breaking production, this gig is right in your wheelhouse. You'll need to be comfortable owning the technical relationship and executing the infrastructure moves from day one.

What You'll Actually Be Doing

Your day-to-day will revolve around planning, testing, and executing large-scale migrations using the Migration Toolkit for Virtualization (MTV). You will spend a lot of time analyzing source VMware vSphere and RHV environments, mapping out VM dependencies, and shifting both Linux and Windows workloads over to OpenShift Virtualization (KubeVirt) clusters. Expect to run client-facing workshops, troubleshoot thorny networking and multi-path storage issues, and write automation scripts using Ansible or Python to keep the migration pipelines humming.

The Core Tech Stack

To survive this role, you need deep, battle-tested experience with the Red Hat ecosystem, specifically OpenShift Container Platform administration on bare-metal and Red Hat Advanced Cluster Management (RH-ACM) for fleet-wide visibility. OpenShift GitOps powered by ArgoCD is non-negotiable since everything is managed declaratively. You must also know VMware vSphere inside and out—vCenter, ESXi, and vDS networking—because you cannot migrate what you do not understand. Factor in solid Linux/Windows guest OS knowledge and foundational storage/networking like OVN-Kubernetes and Ceph, and you have the complete picture.

Interview Expectations

The hiring manager is going to probe deep into your failure recovery stories, specifically asking how you handle a live migration failure when moving a massive, stateful Windows VM across disparate storage backends. They want to see that you stay calm under pressure and know how to analyze KubeVirt and MTV logs to pinpoint root causes. They will also test your architectural chops around multi-cluster governance using RH-ACM and ArgoCD, looking for practical insights into managing policy-driven compliance at scale rather than just textbook definitions.

Application Advice

Skip the generic cloud-native buzzwords and focus heavily on concrete metrics in your resume. Highlight the scale of the clusters you have administered, the number of VMs you have migrated, and your exact hands-on experience with KubeVirt, MTV, and vSphere. Make sure keywords like Red Hat Advanced Cluster Management, ArgoCD, and Ansible Automation Platform jump off the page so you easily clear the initial ATS filters.
