Job Description & Details
This is a targeted contract role for a senior data professional to clean up warehouse compliance and inventory tracking for a major North American produce distributor. You'll be untangling messy warehouse management data to build operational dashboards that actually hold users and shifts accountable.
What You'll Actually Be Doing
Your days will kick off with discovery workshops alongside operations and DC managers to figure out why inventory discrepancies keep happening. Once you define the metrics, you'll roll up your sleeves to profile live warehouse data, design dimensional models, and build Power BI dashboards. You aren't just taking orders here; you are owning the entire lifecycle from metric definition and performant SQL queries to final user validation and handover.
The Core Tech Stack
You need absolute mastery over SQL and dimensional modeling, specifically star schemas, conformed dimensions, and complex window functions. Power BI is your primary tool for the visualization layer, and experience with WMS platforms like Blue Yonder, SAP EWM, or Manhattan will give you an instant edge since you'll be parsing raw inventory ledgers and movement logs.
Interview Expectations
Expect the hiring manager to throw a heavy SQL optimization scenario at you, asking how you would calculate FEFO/FIFO compliance or un-pick rates across millions of transactional logs without tanking database performance. They want to see if you can bridge the gap between technical data profiling and operational business reality, so be ready to explain how you handle messy data when warehouse workers bypass scanner protocols.
Application Advice
Your resume needs to heavily feature your experience with supply chain analytics, warehouse management data, and stakeholder-facing requirement gathering. Skip the generic analyst keywords and explicitly mention star schemas, complex SQL joins, and Power BI dashboard deployments in the context of distribution centers or manufacturing plants to easily clear their ATS.
