Job Description & Details
This is a heavy-hitting Tableau and Power BI consulting role designed for someone who knows enterprise BI architecture inside and out. You aren't just building pretty dashboards here; you are acting as the reporting thought leader, fixing performance bottlenecks, and setting up scalable data visualization standards in a regulated environment.
What You'll Actually Be Doing
Expect to spend your days designing semantic layers, optimizing complex SQL queries against massive datasets, and steering migrations from Tableau to Power BI. You'll be dealing with row-level security, setting up enterprise governance frameworks, and acting as the bridge between technical data teams and non-technical stakeholders who want their numbers yesterday. It is a mix of high-level architecture and hands-on troubleshooting where performance and reliability are everything.
The Core Tech Stack
You need expert-level chops in Tableau and Power BI, plus serious fluency in SQL performance tuning for large-scale datasets. Snowflake or SQL Server experience is a given, but you also need to know your way around server administration, row-level security, and CI/CD pipelines for BI deployments. If you've handled cloud analytics platforms like AWS or Azure and migrated legacy dashboards to modern stacks, you're going to fit right in.
Interview Expectations
Expect the hiring team to grill you on how you handle complex data modeling and query optimization when a dashboard is timing out on a billion-row table. They want to hear about your exact strategy for structuring a semantic layer and how you implement strict row-level security without blowing up performance. They are secretly testing whether you can push back on unrealistic stakeholder requests while keeping business partners happy.
Application Advice
Make sure your resume screams enterprise-scale BI rather than just simple chart creation. Highlight specific instances where you tuned SQL queries, managed Tableau Server or Power BI Service administration, and successfully executed dashboard migrations or data warehousing integrations. Weave in keywords like dimensional modeling, RLS, and CI/CD for BI to easily clear their automated ATS filters.
