Production Engineer

Toyota Material Handling

Job Description & Details

This is a hands-on manufacturing role at Toyota Material Handling where you will own an assigned production area, drive continuous improvement, and solve chronic equipment bottlenecks. If you prefer sitting behind a desk writing software all day, this isn't for you—you'll be working directly on the shop floor with maintenance teams and operators.

What You'll Actually Be Doing

You'll spend your days knee-deep in plant operations, collecting data to recommend safety and productivity upgrades. You will collaborate with manufacturing leadership to troubleshoot systemic equipment failures, design material flow diagrams, and use CAD to draft process layouts. Expect to write vendor specifications for tooling, execute projects within budget, and roll up your sleeves to mentor junior engineers while ensuring everything runs safely.

The Core Tech Stack

You need a solid foundation in 2D and 3D CAD tools like Solidworks, Inventor, or AutoCAD to design layouts and fixtures. A fundamental grasp of manufacturing methods—think welding, cutting, and milling—is non-negotiable. Familiarity with Toyota Lean Principles or industrial coating processes will immediately set you apart from other applicants.

Interview Expectations

Expect the hiring manager to ask you to describe a time you diagnosed a chronic mechanical or process bottleneck using limited data. They want to hear about your root-cause analysis methodology and how you worked hands-on with cross-functional teams to fix it. They will also likely test your spatial reasoning and CAD capabilities, so be ready to talk through past design projects and how you handle shop floor constraints.

Application Advice

Make sure your resume heavily features keywords like "continuous improvement," "CAD," "manufacturing processes," and specific engineering standards to clear the ATS. Don't just list your degree; highlight any hands-on project work or shop floor experience you have, even if it's from internships or academic labs. Emphasize your ability to collaborate with different departments, as Toyota heavily values communication and teamwork.
