Job Description & Details
This is a specialized production design role focusing on life sciences and medical device labeling systems in Sunnyvale. If you enjoy sweating the micro-details of typography, regulatory compliance, and cross-functional engineering handoffs, this contract gives you a chance to own print-ready assets from design intent to Agile release.
What You'll Actually Be Doing
You'll spend your days buried in Adobe Illustrator, BarTender, and PLM systems translating raw design inputs into print-ready artwork and detailed engineering drawings. You will juggle system labels, packaging components, and multi-language caution kits across roughly two dozen languages. Expect to collaborate daily with mechanical engineers, regulatory teams, and suppliers, reviewing first-article reports and making sure your die-cut measurements and color specs are absolute perfection.
The Core Tech Stack
Your bread and butter here will be the Adobe Creative Cloud Suite—specifically Illustrator and Acrobat Pro—paired with enterprise labeling systems like BarTender, Innovatum, or ILMS. You also need a solid handle on Agile PLM or similar document control environments, plus the ability to read and interpret complex CAD drawings and translate them into physical, UL-compliant polycarbonate label specifications.
Interview Expectations
The hiring manager is going to want proof that you can handle high-pressure design iterations without dropping the ball on strict regulatory compliance. They will likely present a scenario where a critical label change needs to go live across multiple translated kits on a tight deadline, asking you how you manage stakeholder feedback and catch discrepancies before it hits the manufacturing floor. They want someone who treats design as a precise engineering discipline rather than just pure aesthetics.
Application Advice
Skip the generic design portfolio fluff and make sure your resume explicitly highlights your 4+ years working within highly regulated medical device or life science environments. Mirror keywords straight from the job description like Agile PLM, BarTender, die-cut measurements, first article inspection, and supplier drawings so you easily punch through the automated tracking filters.
