Senior Network Engineer

Job Description & Details

This is a heavy-duty infrastructure role where you'll be managing the physical and cloud networks keeping a complex enterprise environment online. Expect to field after-hours maintenance calls and balance day-to-day firefighting with proactive architecture upgrades. If you enjoy a mix of traditional routing and modern cloud edge management, this gig will definitely keep you on your toes.

What You'll Actually Be Doing

You'll spend your days configuring LAN/WAN, troubleshooting pesky routing issues, and managing enterprise firewalls to keep the perimeter secure. Beyond the physical hardware, you'll bridge the gap to the cloud by supporting Azure and AWS networking, hybrid connectivity, and tweaking Cloudflare or Azure Front Door settings. When things break—and they will—you'll run root-cause analysis, push out changes, and write Python or PowerShell scripts to automate away the tedious tasks so you aren't doing manual config changes at 2 AM.

The Core Tech Stack

You need absolute fluency in enterprise routing, switching, VLANs, and SD-WAN because the hardware won't configure itself. Solid firewall management and VPN administration are non-negotiable since security is baked into every layer of this role. On top of that, your ability to navigate Azure and AWS networking constructs alongside Cloudflare edge services will determine whether you sink or swim here.

Interview Expectations

Expect the hiring manager to throw a gnarly hybrid-cloud troubleshooting scenario at you, asking how you would diagnose a latency spike between an on-prem manufacturing site and an Azure VPC. They aren't looking for a textbook answer; they want to hear your step-by-step methodology for isolating whether the bottleneck is the local firewall, the ISP, or the cloud gateway. They will also likely quiz you on your network automation scripts, so be ready to explain a specific Python or PowerShell script you wrote to automate a tedious routing or provisioning task.

Application Advice

To get past the ATS and grab the recruiter's attention, make sure your resume explicitly highlights your hands-on experience with SD-WAN, enterprise firewalls, and hybrid cloud networking in the exact terminology used in the job description. Don't just list technologies—add a few bullet points detailing how you handled complex troubleshooting or reduced MTTR (Mean Time to Resolution) during critical incidents, as that practical proof is what senior engineering hiring managers actually care about.
