Network Architect

Job Description & Details

This is a heavy-hitting network infrastructure role requiring deep architecture expertise and a physical presence in Pittsburgh. You will be stepping into complex enterprise environments to untangle legacy setups and drive massive modernization projects. If you like high-stakes network transformations and touching everything from core routing to next-gen security, this gig is worth your time.

What You'll Actually Be Doing

You will spend your days designing, implementing, and optimizing large-scale enterprise network infrastructures, which means you'll be writing extensive High-Level Designs (HLD) and Low-Level Designs (LLD) before touching any hardware. Expect to lead digital transformation efforts, migrating legacy systems to modern architectures while keeping uptime high. You'll be collaborating with security and cloud teams to ensure seamless integration across hybrid environments, meaning you need to be ready to defend your architectural decisions to stakeholders.

The Core Tech Stack

You absolutely must live and breathe Cisco. We are talking Catalyst 9K switches, Nexus 5K/7K/9K platforms, and deep routing protocols like OSPF and BGP. On top of that, you need hands-on familiarity with Cisco Catalyst 9800 WLCs, Cisco ISE, and Cisco ACI. For security and edge traffic, expect to configure Palo Alto firewalls, F5 Load Balancers, and VeloCloud SD-WAN. Throw in Microsoft Azure networking alongside Python and Ansible for automation, and you have the complete toolkit required to survive here.

Interview Expectations

Expect the interview panel to grill you on your disaster recovery strategies for large-scale BGP route leaks or ACI fabric failures. They want to hear how you handle high availability under pressure, so be ready to walk through a real LLD you authored and explain the trade-offs you made. They are also going to test your automation mindset—be prepared to explain how you've used Python or Ansible to eliminate repetitive manual configuration tasks in past roles.

Application Advice

Make sure your resume highlights your end-to-end design experience rather than just daily support tasks. Lead with your HLD/LLD creation history and explicitly list out the Cisco hardware, VeloCloud SD-WAN, and Azure networking components mentioned in the job description to get past the initial ATS filters. Do not gloss over your automation skills; explicitly mention any Python or Ansible scripts you've written for network provisioning.
