Reliability Engineer

Genesis10

Job Description & Details

This is a year-long reliability engineering contract embedded within a massive global financial institution, helping them keep mission-critical systems running without a hitch. You won't just be putting out fires; you'll be actively shaping how engineering teams approach uptime, observability, and infrastructure scaling.

What You'll Actually Be Doing

Your day-to-day will be a mix of deep-dive root cause analysis on gnarly distributed system failures and designing overarching observability strategies. You'll spend a good chunk of your time writing instrumentation, building dashboards, and automating away repetitive manual toil. Expect to collaborate heavily with software engineering leaders to bake reliability, security, and cloud architecture best practices straight into the deployment lifecycle.

The Core Tech Stack

AWS is the bedrock here, so you need to be deeply comfortable navigating cloud computing and hybrid cloud environments. Paired with that, a solid grasp of DevOps practices, cloud security guardrails, and risk management frameworks is non-negotiable since you're operating inside heavily regulated financial tech.

Interview Expectations

Be prepared for a hiring manager to throw a complex production outage scenario your way and ask how you'd track down the root cause using distributed tracing and logs. They are secretly testing your methodical problem-solving process and how well you stay calm under pressure. You'll also likely get grilled on how you handle architectural disagreements with development teams when pushing for non-functional requirements and automation.

Application Advice

When updating your resume, make sure AWS, observability, and DevOps automation take center stage right at the top. Don't just list tools; highlight specific metrics where you improved system uptime, reduced mean time to resolution (MTTR), or automated away manual toil to ensure your application sails through their automated ATS filters.
