Job Description & Details
This is a heavy-hitting Product Owner gig sitting inside the Market Risk Technology team of a major global financial institution in Jersey City. You will be knee-deep in regulatory frameworks like Basel III and FRTB, translating complex risk requirements into technical specs for developers while owning the roadmap. If you enjoy wrangling VaR metrics and bridging the gap between quants, business stakeholders, and engineering squads, this 12-month contract will keep you sharp.
What You'll Actually Be Doing
Expect to spend your days acting as the crucial translation layer between risk managers and the dev team. You will be defining the product vision, meticulously grooming the JIRA backlog, and writing technical specifications for major Global Markets programs. Your day-to-day will involve supporting end-to-end IT change initiatives, helping push through infrastructure updates for risk processes, and assisting with user acceptance testing and data analysis to ensure your outputs match strict regulatory requirements.
The Core Tech Stack
You need a rock-solid foundation in market risk domains, paired with hands-on technical literacy. SQL and Excel are absolute non-negotiables here since you will be pulling and analyzing data constantly without waiting for a data engineer. Familiarity with Agile methodologies and JIRA is a given. If you have Python or Quartz experience under your belt, that will be a massive bonus that helps you speak the same language as the quantitative modelers.
Interview Expectations
When you sit down with the hiring managers, expect them to test your depth on market risk metrics like Stressed VaR and risk sensitivities by asking you to walk through a time you translated an ambiguous regulatory mandate into a concrete sprint backlog. They want to see how you push back on unrealistic business demands while keeping developers unblocked. Another likely angle will involve a scenario where data discrepancies pop up between front-office systems and risk engines, testing your SQL debugging mindset and your ability to present that messy data clearly to non-technical stakeholders.
Application Advice
To get past the recruiter screen and the ATS, your resume needs to explicitly feature keywords like "Basel III", "FRTB", "VaR", "JIRA", and "Market Risk Technology". Don't just list your past job titles; highlight specific instances where you owned an end-to-end technical delivery in a large financial services environment. Frame your bullet points around how you successfully bridged business stakeholders and engineering teams to deliver complex regulatory or risk reporting systems.
