Job Description & Details
This is a heavy-hitting 12+ month contract role embedded in a major financial institution, focusing directly on modernizing Municipal Bonds Primary Markets platforms. If you understand fixed-income workflows and know how to herd cats across syndicate desks and dev teams, this gig offers a massive stage to drive high-impact automation.
What You'll Actually Be Doing
Your day-to-day will be a constant balancing act between talking to front-office traders and wrangling 1 to 3 Agile delivery teams. You'll be owning the backlog, writing hyper-specific user stories for complex new issue workflows, and figuring out how to push straight-through processing in an industry that still relies on a lot of legacy habits. Expect to manage everything from order book management and pricing to regulatory requirements and user adoption.
The Core Tech Stack
You need absolute fluency in the municipal bond issuance lifecycle—competitive and negotiated transactions, syndication, pricing, allocations, and settlement are non-negotiable. On the tooling side, you'll be living in JIRA and Confluence, but you'll also score major points if you've touched Deal Central, AWS, Azure, OpenShift, or event-driven architectures. They need someone who can speak fluent finance to the bankers and fluent technical requirements to the engineers.
Interview Expectations
Expect the hiring manager to ask you to walk through a time you had to ruthlessly deprioritize feature requests from a high-powered trading desk in favor of technical debt or platform modernization. They want to see your backbone and your stakeholder management skills. You'll also likely get grilled on how you handle ambiguous regulatory requirements and translate them into concrete, sprint-ready acceptance criteria for cross-functional teams.
Application Advice
Don't just list your Agile certifications; your resume needs to scream fixed-income domain expertise. Make sure terms like "Municipal Bonds Primary Markets," "order book management," "syndication," and "straight-through processing" are front and center to clear the ATS. If you've worked directly with front-office syndicate desks or built out similar platforms like Deal Central, highlight those metrics and project outcomes immediately.
