Job Description & Details
This is a hands-on 12-month contract building high-stakes financial index platforms for the FTSE Russell ecosystem. You'll be knee-deep in workflow-led, data-heavy systems where auditability and precision are non-negotiable.
What You'll Actually Be Doing
You'll spend your days building and maintaining user-facing platforms that drive the governance, monitoring, and operational management of financial indices. Expect to untangle complex workflows involving data approvals, exception handling, and dashboarding. Because this is a regulated financial environment, you won't just be shipping code; you'll be ensuring every data integration is traceable, secure, and resilient enough to handle high-volume enterprise operations without breaking a sweat.
The Core Tech Stack
You need to bring a dual-threat frontend capability featuring deep React expertise for greenfield builds, alongside enough Angular knowledge to maintain and modernize legacy modules. On the backend, heavy production experience with Java and Spring Boot is mandatory, especially for crafting clean REST/GraphQL APIs and hooking into cloud-native AWS architectures. Familiarity with event streams like Kafka or SQS is vital for tying these distributed services together, and you'll be expected to lean into AI-assisted tooling to speed up your daily prototyping and testing workflows.
Interview Expectations
Expect the hiring team to test your system design chops with a scenario where a financial index calculation fails mid-workflow, asking how you would trace the audit logs across microservices while maintaining immutability. They'll also probe your practical experience with AI-assisted coding, looking to see if you understand the limits of agentic workflows and how you apply rigorous human validation to AI-generated code before it hits a production branch.
Application Advice
Make sure your resume puts front-and-center evidence of your enterprise full-stack delivery, explicitly calling out projects where you balanced heavy React UIs with robust Java Spring Boot backends. Highlight keywords from the posting like auditability, workflow orchestration, and cloud-native integration, and be ready to discuss how you've successfully leveraged AI tools to accelerate your engineering throughput without sacrificing security.
