Program Manager - Store Technology

Apex Systems

Job Description & Details

This 12-month contract puts you right in the middle of a massive retail technology modernization effort, managing complex store operations and point-of-sale systems for a major enterprise. If you like untangling massive cross-functional dependencies and wrangling disparate teams from architecture to deployment, this gig will keep you on your toes.

What You'll Actually Be Doing

Your typical week involves acting as the glue between product, engineering, infrastructure, and business stakeholders who all speak slightly different languages. You will be building delivery plans, mapping out critical paths, and hunting down blockers before they derail the go-live date. Expect to spend a significant amount of time putting together executive dashboards that translate messy technical risks into clear business decisions, especially as you lead the team through release planning and hypercare stabilization periods.

The Core Tech Stack

You don't need to write code, but you do need to be an absolute power user of Jira and Confluence to keep hundreds of moving parts organized. Experience with ServiceNow, Microsoft Office, and enterprise delivery reporting tools is non-negotiable because your stakeholders will demand real-time visibility into metrics and dependencies. Prior exposure to retail tech, POS systems, or supply chain execution will help you ramp up instantly without needing a glossary for basic store operations terminology.

Interview Expectations

The interviewers are going to want proof of how you handle chaos without having direct authority over the people doing the work. They will likely ask you to describe a time when a critical dependency slipped right before a hard go-live date and how you forced alignment across stubborn engineering and business leads. They are secretly looking for your emotional intelligence, your ability to say 'no' to scope creep diplomatically, and how you distill complex technical failures into actionable executive summaries.

Application Advice

Your resume needs to scream enterprise-scale delivery and cross-functional leadership right at the top. Make sure to weave in exact keywords from the job description like 'cross-functional technology initiatives,' 'Agile and hybrid delivery,' 'dependency management,' and 'executive-level status reporting' so you easily clear the ATS filters. Ditch the generic project management fluff and focus on the sheer size of the budgets, teams, or store footprints you have successfully guided to production in the past.
