Databricks Platform Administrator

Not Disclosed

Job Description & Details

This is a heavy-duty platform operations role where you will be the gatekeeper and architect of enterprise-grade Databricks environments. If you enjoy untangling complex access controls, locking down governance, and making sure multi-workspace clusters don't catch fire, this long-term gig is right in your wheelhouse.

What You'll Actually Be Doing

Your day-to-day will revolve around wrangling Unity Catalog, setting up bulletproof RBAC, and keeping multi-environment deployments (Dev, QA, Prod) humming smoothly. You will spend a lot of time defining storage credentials, managing external locations, auditing user permissions, and ensuring that data access policies align with enterprise security standards. Expect to also interface heavily with infrastructure-as-code pipelines to spin up and maintain workspaces without manual overhead.

The Core Tech Stack

You absolutely must know Unity Catalog and Databricks workspace administration inside and out—this isn't a casual user role, it's deep platform engineering. You'll need solid production mileage with Azure ADLS, IAM integrations, Terraform or other IaC tools, and scripting via Python or the Databricks CLI/APIs. A firm grasp of Delta Lake internals and cluster policy management is non-negotiable since you'll be optimizing compute resources and troubleshooting performance bottlenecks.

Interview Expectations

You can expect the hiring manager to throw a complex Unity Catalog inheritance scenario at you, asking how you'd restrict column-level and row-level security for a cross-functional analytics team without breaking downstream pipelines. They are secretly testing whether you understand permission precedence and how external storage credentials map to schemas. Another likely challenge will involve troubleshooting a silent cluster failure or an authentication breakdown between Azure AD and Databricks service principals, where they want to see your methodical approach to reading audit logs and tracing network traffic.

Application Advice

Make sure your resume doesn't just list Databricks as a casual skill; explicitly highlight the words "Unity Catalog," "RBAC," and "Terraform" front and center. ATS parsers for this role will hunt for concrete metrics on how many workspaces you've managed, the scale of your user base, and specific instances where you hardened cloud security or automated platform operations using Python and APIs.
