Fire Alarm Tech

Everforth Apex

Job Description & Details

This is a hands-on technical role for a Fire Alarm Tech who actually enjoys getting their hands dirty with field programming, commissioning, and troubleshooting. You will be the person bridging the gap between engineering layouts and the Authorities Having Jurisdiction (AHJs) to get systems signed off and running safely.

What You'll Actually Be Doing

Your day-to-day will be a mix of field surveys, laptop programming, and coordinating with project managers and engineering teams. You'll spend plenty of time staring at system layouts, performing diagnostic troubleshooting when something inevitably misbehaves in the field, and walking AHJs through final inspections to lock down project acceptance.

The Core Tech Stack

You need a solid grasp of low-voltage and electrical systems, specifically with laptop-based fire alarm programming and commissioning. Fluency in NFPA 72 code requirements and reading system schematics is non-negotiable here because compliance and safety audits will make or break your projects.

Interview Expectations

Expect the hiring manager to ask you to walk through a scenario where a newly commissioned fire alarm system fails inspection by the AHJ and how you would systematically troubleshoot the root cause. They are secretly looking for your methodical approach to diagnostics and your ability to stay calm under pressure when dealing with code compliance. You will also likely be tested on your familiarity with NFPA standards and how you document daily logs and generate inspection reports.

Application Advice

Make sure your resume explicitly highlights your hands-on low-voltage experience, programming capabilities, and any exposure to NFPA 72 codes. If you have a NICET certification or lower-voltage electrical background, put that front and center to ensure you easily clear the ATS filters.
