EPIC EMR Testing Analyst

Not Disclosed

Job Description & Details

This role puts you right at the intersection of healthcare operations and software quality assurance, focusing heavily on validating Epic EMR implementations. If you enjoy untangling complex clinical workflows and ensuring that patient data flows seamlessly without breaking production, this gig offers a very steady and impactful path in healthcare IT.

What You'll Actually Be Doing

Expect to spend your days knee-deep in test scenarios, validating end-to-end clinical and administrative workflows like patient registration, scheduling, billing, and clinical documentation. You will actively test various Epic modules such as Ambulatory, Inpatient, Cadence, Prelude, and Resolute, while making sure third-party interfaces via HL7 and FHIR are actually passing data correctly. A lot of your time will go toward logging defects in Jira or Azure DevOps, triaging issues with clinical SMEs, and ensuring go-live readiness doesn't cause data disasters.

The Core Tech Stack

You absolutely need hands-on experience with Epic EMR applications and a rock-solid grasp of the healthcare revenue cycle or clinical workflows. Familiarity with defect management tools like Jira, HP ALM, or Azure DevOps is non-negotiable for tracking bugs effectively. Having working knowledge of HL7 interfaces, FHIR APIs, and HIPAA data privacy rules will instantly separate you from other applicants because it proves you understand how Epic talks to external lab, radiology, and pharmacy systems.

Interview Expectations

When you sit down with the hiring manager, expect them to ask you how you handle a critical defect discovered right before an Epic go-live window. They aren't just looking for a textbook answer about test protocols; they want to see your risk-assessment methodology and how you calmly communicate trade-offs between clinical safety and project timelines. You should also be ready to explain a time you troubleshot an interface failure between Epic and an ancillary clinical system using HL7 messages.

Application Advice

To get past the ATS and grab the recruiter's attention, make sure your resume explicitly highlights specific Epic modules you've tested, such as Cadence, Prelude, or Resolute, rather than just listing generic QA skills. Mirror the terminology from the job description by explicitly mentioning terms like end-to-end testing, UAT, defect lifecycle management, and HL7 interface validation so the automated keyword scanner knows you speak the exact language of healthcare IT QA.
