Job Description & Details

This is a solid hybrid gig supporting an Investment Office in downtown Chicago where you will own data pipelines, automated reporting, and low-code solutions without the usual IT bottleneck. If you like building functional data apps and automation while actually understanding the financial context behind the numbers, this role offers a great mix of autonomy and impact.

What You'll Actually Be Doing

You will spend your days building, maintaining, and scaling automated reporting solutions for the Investment Office. You are not just pulling static numbers; you are translating messy business requirements into clean technical workflows, automating manual operational processes, and identifying spots where AI capabilities can streamline everyday tasks. Because the team operates with minimal traditional IT support, you will take ownership of new projects from scratch while keeping existing data pipelines running smoothly.

The Core Tech Stack

Your bread and butter here will be the Microsoft 365 low-code ecosystem. You need strong, hands-on experience with Power Apps, Power Automate, and Dataverse, coupled with heavy lifting in Power Query using M code and writing robust DAX for Power BI. Since you are working closely with financial data, a solid grasp of database schemas, relational data structures, and the intuition to quickly learn new development syntax will make or break your day-to-day execution.

Interview Expectations

Expect the hiring managers to probe heavily into how you handle messy, unstructured data without a dedicated data engineering team backing you up. They will likely ask you to walk through a time you optimized a complex Power Query M script or built a multi-step Power Automate workflow that failed under edge cases. They are secretly looking for autonomous problem-solvers who don't wait for permission to refactor a broken process, while testing whether you actually understand financial data flows versus just moving dashboards around.

Application Advice

Your resume needs to clearly signal that you are more than just a dashboard builder—you are a technical problem solver who understands finance. Make sure keywords like Dataverse, Power Query, M code, DAX, and relational data structures are front and center. Highlight projects where you operated independently within a business unit to deliver automated solutions from scratch, as that independent ownership is the exact trait this hiring manager is filtering for.
