Renewal Coordinator

Indiana Department of Insurance (IDOI)

Job Description & Details

This role is essentially the gatekeeper for insurance licensing renewals within the Indiana Department of Insurance, balancing heavy administrative compliance with stakeholder communication. If you like digging into background documents, managing regulatory databases, and ensuring every single t is crossed for state agents and brokers, this gig will keep you busy.

What You'll Actually Be Doing

You will spend your days wading through license renewal and reinstatement applications for resident and non-resident agents, brokers, and agencies. This means reviewing criminal, civil, or administrative background documents and cross-referencing records using databases like Sircon, NIPR, MyCase, and FINRA BrokerCheck. You'll also handle troubleshooting system errors with vendors, advising candidates on reinstatement processes, reviewing continuing education extension forms, and occasionally backing up the front desk receptionist.

The Core Tech Stack

You won't be writing code here, but you absolutely need practical, battle-tested proficiency in MS Office, specifically Word, Excel, and Teams. The heavy lifting relies on specialized regulatory platforms and databases like Vertafore/Sircon, NIPR, and MyCase, so quick adaptability to complex internal systems is non-negotiable for keeping up with state compliance workflows.

Interview Expectations

The hiring manager is going to test your ability to handle difficult regulatory scenarios and high-pressure customer service interactions. Expect them to ask how you would handle an irate insurance producer whose license renewal was delayed due to a criminal background flag. They want to see that you can remain professional, adhere strictly to state laws and compliance rules, and clearly explain bureaucratic processes without losing your cool.

Application Advice

To make it past the initial resume screen, ensure your resume highlights at least 2 years of solid customer service experience in a professional, compliance-heavy, or administrative environment. Explicitly mention your proficiency with MS Excel and Word. If you have prior background in the LAH/P&C insurance industry or call center operations—even if it's just preferred—make sure those keywords are front and center to immediately catch the recruiter's eye.
