Job Description & Details
This is a hands-on Assembler II contract role based in San Diego within the medical device manufacturing space. If you like working with your hands, following strict compliance standards, and building precise hardware, this position gives you a structured environment to apply your mechanical aptitude.
What You'll Actually Be Doing
You'll spend your days following exact standard operating procedures to wire, install components, and assemble precision instruments using hand and power tools. Beyond just putting things together, you will run testing, calibration, and verification checks to ensure the equipment meets rigorous FDA and ISO guidelines. When production hiccups occur—and they always do—you'll troubleshoot the issue alongside engineering and quality assurance teams to keep the line moving without sacrificing compliance.
The Core Tech Stack
You need a solid handle on hand and power tools, mechanical blueprints, and technical drawings. Experience with wiring, cable harnessing, and using measurement equipment is non-negotiable. Because this is medical device manufacturing, your familiarity with FDA regulations, ISO standards, good manufacturing practices, and strict documentation hygiene will be your bread and butter.
Interview Expectations
Expect the hiring manager to press you on your experience dealing with non-conformance and how you handle strict quality control procedures. They want to see that you don't rush through builds, so they'll likely ask you to describe a time you spotted a defect before a product left your station and how you documented it. Make sure you can walk them through your familiarity with reading mechanical and electrical instructions.
Application Advice
To get past the ATS, make sure your resume explicitly highlights keywords like SOPs, GMP, ISO standards, FDA guidelines, and precision assembly. Don't just list the tools you've used; emphasize your track record with testing, calibration, and first-time-right documentation. If you have any background in medical devices or diagnostics, put that right at the top of your professional summary.
