Salesforce Marketing Cloud (SFMC) Senior Developer

Job Description & Details

This is a heavy-hitting Salesforce Marketing Cloud development role based in New York, requiring you to be in the Apollo office three days a week. You'll be building enterprise-grade marketing solutions, dynamic customer journeys, and complex data architecture specifically tailored for a financial sector client.

What You'll Actually Be Doing

Your days will be split between writing complex AMPscript, spinning up secure CloudPages for data capture, and optimizing SQL queries for massive audience segmentation. You won't just be dragging and dropping in Journey Builder; you'll be troubleshooting data extensions, setting up API integrations with external systems, and ensuring strict compliance with financial regulations and data privacy laws. Expect to debug broken automation flows and coordinate closely with data and marketing teams to turn vague business logic into scalable technical workflows.

The Core Tech Stack

You need absolute mastery over AMPscript, SQL, and CloudPages, as these form the holy trinity of this position. A deep understanding of Journey Builder, Automation Studio, and Data Extensions is non-negotiable since you'll be orchestrating complex, automated customer lifecycles. Familiarity with Marketing Cloud Connect and SSJS will give you a massive edge, but if you can't write clean, secure AMPscript and relational SQL off the top of your head, you'll struggle here.

Interview Expectations

When you sit down with the engineering leads, expect them to test your AMPscript logic with a scenario involving nested lookups and performance optimization within a high-volume email send. They'll likely ask you to explain how you handle secure data passing between CloudPages and Data Extensions without exposing sensitive user info. The interviewer is secretly looking to see if you panic when scale breaks things, or if you instinctively write defensive code with robust error handling.

Application Advice

Your resume needs to scream Salesforce Marketing Cloud right at the top. Do not leave the hiring team guessing—explicitly list keywords like AMPscript, CloudPages, Automation Studio, and Marketing Cloud Connect. Since this is for a financial client, make sure you emphasize any past experience handling secure data, compliance regulations like GDPR or CCPA, and enterprise-scale implementations to get past the automated screening filters.
