Sr. IT Windows Engineer

SpaceX

Job Description & Details

This is a heavy-duty infrastructure role inside SpaceX's IT Windows team, where your daily work directly supports the engineering groups building rockets and spacecraft. You'll be dealing with high-stakes enterprise systems where uptime, security, and scalability aren't just nice-to-haves, they are mission-critical. Expect a fast-paced environment that demands resilience and deep technical ownership.

What You'll Actually Be Doing

You will spend your days designing, deploying, and troubleshooting massive Microsoft enterprise software platforms that power SpaceX's internal operations. One minute you might be architecting a high-availability Active Directory setup, and the next you're writing complex PowerShell scripts to automate infrastructure provisioning at scale. You'll work closely with other demanding engineering teams to gather requirements and deliver rock-solid solutions while navigating strict change control processes.

The Core Tech Stack

To survive here, you need deep mastery of Windows operating system engineering, Active Directory, Kerberos, and multi-platform authentication. Cryptography fundamentals like PKI standards, KMS, HSMs, and certificate management are heavily emphasized because security is paramount. On top of that, you must possess expert-level PowerShell capabilities for automation and have solid experience dealing with hybrid environments involving Entra ID and Active Directory.

Interview Expectations

Expect the interview panel to grill you on advanced Active Directory troubleshooting and Kerberos ticket replication edge cases under pressure. They want to see how you handle catastrophic failure scenarios, so be ready to explain a time you recovered a domain controller or fixed a severely broken multi-site replication topology. The hiring manager is secretly looking for someone who doesn't panic when production goes down and can systematically debug complex, interconnected systems.

Application Advice

Your resume needs to loudly and clearly highlight your heavy infrastructure background, specifically focusing on large-scale Windows environments, Active Directory, and advanced PowerShell automation. Don't just list technologies; quantify your impact by mentioning the size of the user bases or the complexity of the hybrid deployments you've managed. Weave in keywords like PKI, HSM, SCOM, and infrastructure as code to easily clear their ATS filters.
