Project Management - Telecom Expense Management

MTA

Job Description & Details

This is a heavy-duty financial and operational gig embedded inside the MTA's Telecom Expense Management Unit, where you'll be auditing and optimizing massive carrier expenditures across around 30,000 mobile devices. It's a granular, data-intensive role designed for someone who loves digging into thousands of rows of billing data to hunt down discrepancies and stop corporate cash bleeding out to vendors like AT&T, Verizon, and T-Mobile.

What You'll Actually Be Doing

Your day-to-day revolves around wrestling massive datasets, running deep invoice audits, and cross-referencing carrier portal records with ServiceNow assets. You'll spend a lot of time tackling zero-usage reports, optimizing mobile and landline asset tracking, and building out Power BI dashboards or PowerPoint presentations to explain budget variances to leadership. Expect to own the full lifecycle of cost-saving initiatives, from parsing raw CSV exports to forecasting future telecom procurement requirements.

The Core Tech Stack

Advanced Excel is your bread and butter here—if you don't live inside pivot tables, VLOOKUPs, and complex database joins, you will struggle. You also need solid operational fluency in ServiceNow for asset tracking, PeopleSoft for financial entries, and Power BI or advanced reporting tools to package your findings for executive eyes. Experience with Telecom Expense Management (TEM) platforms and familiarity with modern automation tools or AI-driven analytics will instantly move your resume to the top of the stack.

Interview Expectations

When you sit down with the hiring team, expect them to test your ability to synthesize chaos into clarity by asking how you would approach reconciling a multi-million dollar vendor invoice discrepancy with incomplete carrier data. They want to hear about your systematic approach to data integrity, how you handle massive files without crashing Excel, and your exact methodology for spotting anomalies in high-volume billing. They're also going to probe your communication skills, looking for proof that you can take dense, technical financial data and translate it into plain English for non-technical stakeholders.

Application Advice

Don't just send a generic project management resume; tailor it specifically around financial auditing, telecom expense management, and massive data analysis. Make sure exact keywords like 'ServiceNow', 'PeopleSoft', 'Power BI', 'zero-usage reports', and 'vendor invoice analysis' are front and center so you easily clear the initial ATS screening filters. Emphasize any past roles where you managed enterprise-scale budgets, audited carrier contracts, or built automated reporting pipelines from scratch.
